And then there were 4....

Much has happened in the past few months but we will begin with the most important news of all. Following our month in Canada, Doug, Nylah and I returned home to life as usual in Melbourne. Only one thing was different.. I could not for the life of me figure out why I couldn't shake the jet lag from the flight over. Even Nylah seemed relatively unscathed, however I seemed to be walking around in a haze for a week or so after we landed. In cleaning out our bathroom cupboard I found an extra pregnancy test and without thinking much of it decided to take it. (There was no other reason to believe that I was pregnant other than a bit of light-headedness). I must have stared at the big + sign for 10 minutes before reality actually sunk in.

I believe the first thought that came to mind was..." hmmm...funny that they would use a positive sign to indicate a negative result". I actually had to google the test result to make sure I was reading the test correctly (the box with directions were long gone). In shock I called Doug and made up some silly excuse for him to come home quickly from work for a minute. We both stood in disbelief as I told him the news. Although the baby was planned, we never thought it would happen so quickly. We were over the moon!

I am now 22 weeks pregnant and it has been confirmed that the first week of July we will be bringing another little girl into the world. Doug has come to terms with the thought of a life full filled with oestrogen... and we could not be happier!

A bit of Musical Fun....

Well some concerts have come through town that we didn't want to miss. The first was an AC/DC concert organized by our friend Rich, one of Doug's University buddies. A big group of about 20 of us took a step back in time and joined about 50,000 other people in Melbourne's Etihad Stadium for a solid night of good old head banging. Although the band is now in their 60's they still had plenty of energy and the mixed crowd of youngster, seniors and everyone in the middle (we felt young) certainly went all out.

That night we had a massive rain storm leaving all of us starting the evening as drowned rats. The look actually worked very well with the environment :o) All in all a great night, and our unborn daughter certainly seemed to respond to the music with plenty of backflips and head banging.

A few weeks later the girls and I hit the town for a ladies night out with George Michael. Now I am sure we all have fond memories from WHAM's "Wake me up before you go go" and "Careless Whispers", to his Faith album, but in his late 40's George Michael's voice is still one of my favorite and his songs just as memorable. Being the very last concert of his world tour, he gave it everything he had with the very last song being Freedom in which we could barely hear his voice above our own. This concert did not disappoint and I sincerely hope it is not the last time I see him live.

Here are some Pic's and a video from our AC/DC concert....

Nylah's 1st Birthday

January brought with it Nylah's first birthday celebration. I still can't believe that she is already a year old...especially when I look down at my belly and see baby #2 quickly making her mark. Life is speeding by these days.

In order to honour our little girl's first milestone we decided to invite many of our friends and local family to a nice little park near our place. With a jungle gym, public toilets, picnic tables and plenty of shade, we figured it the perfect venue to host our 70 some odd guests (yes, Nylah had more people come to her birthday party than Doug and mine combined). Our only concern was the weather. Typically Melbourne in January is very hot with little rain (it can sometimes hit 40+ degrees here in the summer.) As the day of the party approached however, it seemed that the first bit of rain in 10 days was going to be right smack in the middle of Nylah's party. In fact up until an hour before the party was due to start we were debating calling everyone to transfer the event to our place instead.

We took the leap however, and our faith was rewarded with a gorgeous, breezy and dry afternoon which everyone enjoyed. The afternoon was perfect, and the first drops of rain didn't start until we were loading the cars and heading home !! All in all a wonderful first birthday for Nylah Grace.

A very special thank you goes out to Pip who came in from Sydney to share Nylah's special day.

Here is a little photo slideshow from Nylah's big day....

Christmas 2009

Christmas this year was extra special as it was our first one as a family of 3 (well 4 really). The Vargo tradition is to have a family dinner and gift opening on Christmas eve. So the three of us headed over to Doug's parents house for a dinner with his parents and Nicole (my sister in law) and her family - Michael, Maddi and Hannah. With 4 kids the present opening certainly went on for a looooong time, but let's face it, Christmas is all about the children now.

Christmas day was left wide open for the three of us to do as we please. After a beautiful family dinner and church service the night before, we woke up to a gorgeous sunny day and the smell of pine through the house (we insisted on a great big fir tree for the season even though it was only for us to enjoy). The morning was spent enjoying a massive breakfast and opening presents, followed by a family nap (sigh-heaven). That afternoon we drove out to St. Kilda beach where we relaxed and played in the sand for a few hours. Dinner was at a cute restaurant on the beach and we all returned home exhausted and elated. A quiet Christmas (and certainly very different to what we were used to in Canada) but special none the less.

Here's a few pics from our going's on in and around Christmas.

It's been a while !!

Firstly we would like to apologize for the very long delay in our updating of the blog. After many hints (and direct orders) we are finally getting our act together. It is nice to know that so many people care :o)

So, our little girl is 9 1/2 months old and we can hardly believe how quickly she changes. She started crawling 6 weeks ago and now practicallly refuses to be on her knees, but can be found furniture surfing or pushing anything and everything around in an attempt to walk. Our days of relaxation are long gone! We are of course loving it!

Below we have put 4 new blog entries (oldest one's at the bottom) from our adventures over the last 6 weeks to get caught up to date....

Oh and here's some recent pics of Nylah - just because.

Bring on Summer !!

Well it's a bit early but Summer has certainly come along nice and early for us here in Australia. This week has seen 5 days in a row of plus 30 degree heat.

Last week we were lucky enough to be invited by one of Lydia's great mother's group friends - Caroline and her husband Rob (and son Will) to Rob's parents beachhouse for the long Melbourne Cup weekend. Their place is a beautiful 4 bedroom house in Anglesea - about and hour and a half outside Melbourne. Another couple - Hyph and Amanda came down with their son Milo to make a real group of it.

The weather was on and off but we still hit the beach to give Nylah her first taste....literally, as she spent the time learning that sand really isn't that tasty. Despite the chilly water, we dipped Nylah's feet in which she absolutely LOVED. I even took a dip myself, although it wasn't as bad for me given that I was decked out in 2XU's newest, greatest and certainly most expensive wetsuit -the Project-X for which I am lucky enough to hold a production sample of!!

We spent the weekend eating some great food, drinking some beautiful wine, reading, watching the kids having a great time together, betting on the races (it was Melbourne Cup weekend afterall) and just generally relaxing for a few fantastic days.

Lyds was lucky enough to head back up for another beach trip, but this time to Caroline's mother's place in Blairgowrie (another beachside town about an hour from Melbourne). This time it was just the mum's (Caroline, Lyds and Emma) with the kids (Will, Nylah and Gracie) for a few days of beach loving.

Got to love this warm weather !!

Here's some pics from the two trips...

In between the beach trips, Lyds and I were excited to be invited by one of my best friends - Kyls and her husbnad Rohan to join them in their Carpark spot at the Races for Stakes day. Any Australian will tell you that the Spring Carnival Races in Melbourne are HUGE. Around 100,000+ people attend each of the four race days at Flemington Race track in Melbourne over the 2 weeks of the Carnival. The actual Races themselves are merely a sideshow for all the parties that occur outside in the various carpark's and marquees that surround the track.

We had a day off with Nylah staying with her cousins for the day, so it was great to be able to relax with a drink or two and have some adult fun. I was lucky enough to bag a 30-1 winner early in the day and Lyds seemed to be picking placegetters in every race which paid for the day quite nicely. While we were there, we managed to catch up with our good friends - Pip and Mully (who introduced Lyds and I in Canada) who were down for the weekend from Sydney. Overall, yet another great Melbourne day.

Here's a few pics from the day....
