Settling into Oz

With mixed feelings we finally landed in our new home, Melbourne, Australia where we will be living for at least the next couple of years. I say mixed feelings as the past year has been such an incredible adventure for us that we are sad to see it end, and yet the idea of settling down and building a home is also very appealing. The trip home from Easter Island was very long with two stop-overs of 7 and 5 hours in Tahiti and New Zealand.

When we finally arrived home after more than 24 hours travelling we were greeted by a very welcoming Vargo/Mathers family with a special dinner to follow. It didn't take long to settle into a comfortable routine thanks to the hospitality of Doug's sister Nicole, her husband Michael, and niece Maddi.

Our first few weeks have been filled with all the fun errands one must do when first settling in a new country....setting up bank accounts, Health insurance, car, computer, phone etc purchases, drivers licence transfers, Canadian taxes and so on....as well as of course catching up with most of our Australian friends.

After a couple of crazy weeks Doug is currently interviewing with various recruiting companies in the hopes of finding a good job to settle into, while I am going to be building a start up nutrition company that is currently very successful in Canada and the UK.

Despite hearing about a massive rental property shortage in Melbourne, we were pleased to find out last night that we have been approved for our dream apartment in our dream location (it was the 2nd place we looked at) and we will be moving into over the next week. We'll post some photos once we settle in there.

Although we miss our blissful days of travel, we are both happy to be here and looking forward to a prosperous and happy new life here in Australia.
